Welcome to Amigos
Originally produced in 1990 with funding from a Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant and distributed by GPN, Amigos is a beloved, vibrant 30-part telecourse designed to introduce foundational Spanish.
Instead of relying on dry, traditional drills, the series uses immersion, gentle context, and character interaction to make learning natural and fun. The stories center around Señorita Fernández’s Funky Fonda, a lively community hub where children congregate alongside Perro Pepe—an unforgettable, six-foot-tall Spanish-speaking dog.
Whether you are a language learner building a new foundation in Spanish or simply revisiting a nostalgic piece of public television history, these episodes offer a fantastic, low-pressure way to practice. The cards below introduce the themes and narrative arcs of all 30 episodes to help you navigate the series. Whenever you are ready to start watching, just head over to the Amigos Theater.
