Saludos is a little-known 1980s PBS Spanish-language learning series for children, produced by Great Plains National Television. With its mix of live-action stories, short instructional segments, puppets, and audience participation, the program has a format reminiscent of Sesame Street.

The story takes place in a Philadelphia neighborhood with a growing Spanish-speaking community. Mr. Wiggins, an older neighborhood shopkeeper, finds it increasingly difficult to communicate with many of his new customers. Mina steps in to help, teaching him practical Spanish that he can use in his store and in everyday situations.

Language instruction is woven directly into the story. When important Spanish words and expressions are introduced, they appear on screen so viewers can see, hear, and repeat them. Short segments between story scenes reinforce vocabulary and explore topics related to each episode.

At the end of every episode, two puppets—Pete and Repeat—review key vocabulary and encourage viewers to practice pronunciation by repeating the words and expressions they have learned.
